Startup ecosystems are booming—and not just where you’d expect.
Lately, we’ve been telling you about all the media buzz Seismic has been accruing. Most recently, we told you about our CFO’s features in The Business Journals and Invested Wallet and our CEO’s in Crowdfund Insider and Proactive Investors. Of course, we think any insight from our leadership team is always worth a read—but we also think we’re overdue for an update on Venture Capital at large.
Bloomberg recently published an article surveying the growth of startups nationwide as a result of increased venture activity. While the top cities for startup investment are ones you would typically expect—San Francisco, New York, Boston, and so on—the data reveals that disparate regions throughout the country have also benefited from the surge in Venture Capital investing. Cities like Nashville, Tampa, Salt Lake City, and Dallas—probably not your first thought when you hear “startup hubs”—have seen gains upwards of 400% in Venture Capital investing over the past decade.
The conclusion is clear: startup ecosystems are thriving all across the country. Unsurprisingly, the sector that’s seen the most growth has been tech, with the pandemic creating a wave of opportunities for innovative solutions.
At Seismic, we aren’t limiting the kinds of high-potential companies we’re seeking out to any one sector, but we are looking for only, those that fit our criteria to become the most innovative ideas—those that have the potential to become the next “unicorn,” or billion-dollar startup. And we’re looking everywhere. With new companies now achieving “unicorn” status almost every day, we think our odds are better than ever.
