Breaking the stereotype of VC as an “old boys’ club.”
2023 was a relatively strong year for female founders in Venture Capital. Data recently released by PitchBook indicates that the amount of VC capital raised by female-founded and mixed-gender startups was the third highest on record, and the proportion of capital invested in startups with female founders was the highest it’s ever been. Mixed-gender companies, in particular, saw big gains, raising almost 33% more capital than three years prior while closing fewer deals overall.
Experts believe this could be the “new normal” for funding going forward, and at Seismic Capital, we couldn’t be happier for this to be the case – when we say “VC for all,” we mean everyone. We are at the forefront of a movement to bring about positive change to early-stage investing, and a major component of this is promoting a more equitable playing field for all involved. Our founders and board of advisors come from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life, and this diversity is one of our greatest strengths as a fund.
